McCafés Attack on Asheville, Nice

McCafe is a world of delicious coffees and drinks. They have a wide selection of exclusive expresso cofffee, gourmet cakes and muffins, and delicious snacks. Note that McDonalds is taking some "green" steps in making every McCafe coffee out of 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified Arabica coffee beans. This is big for Asheville.

There will be 5 new McCafés going up in the Asheville area. You can view the plan approvals by clicking HERE. Other nearby McCafés will be in Fletcher, Old Fort, Forest City, Columbus, and Marion North Carolina. This is big and fits in perfectly with the paced area growth that is sneaking in the area. Obama, Tiger Woods, and now McD's making a sustainable move in Western North Carolina. They need to put one in Weaverville to go along with the new Super Wal-Mart about to open.

Photos above are some McCafés around the world including the dessert display in Paris, France

Buncombe County Video Gaming Headquarters

This gaming place in Asheville Buncombe is just too cool. From Patton Ave, you turn right on Leicester Hwy, go about 5 miles, and it is right behind McDonald's on the right. A nice relaxed environment with plenty of big screen tv's, game tables, pool tables, ping-pong tables, giant wall tv (football was on when we were there), drinks, snacks (lower pricing if I may add), and a line of computer against the side wall. This is the perfect place to go and take the family for a few hours, and that is very very possible when it is only 4 bucks an hour! They will have a great time want to come back for weeks. Great business that is run by a retired Army MP and his two sons who are very good at dealing with a bunch of gamers, lol. You can visit their website at www.VirtualAmbush.com. Averages ages that were there when we went... from 5 years old to some parents, teens, and some adults playing on the large game board in the room center on the right side. Boy/Girl ratio was 75% boys, and 25% girls. Non-Smoking and no alcohol at all.

Enka Candler Fire Dept & Buncombe EMS to the rescue

Out on the West Side of Buncombe County the other day, we saw Engine 10 from the West Asheville Fire Department racing out toward Candler. They ended up going into the Food Lion parking lot (behind Sonic) and heading toward Rite Aid. Engine 10 ended up turning around because the Enka Candler Fire Department already had it covered. Somebody had a seizure and they quickly came to rescue. Thank you. It is so good to know that the people in public service and rescue efforts all team up together to save a life. Firefighters risk their lives daily to protect and save each one of us. Sometimes I have to see a situation like this to stress the importance of this type of work. In a day when most of the "Heroes" our kids see are on TV, please remember the folks that go out there every day protecting and preventing accidents and other mishaps. Buncombe Country is such a great place with so many great people.

The Hottest Highway Point in Buncombe County NC

This spot may just look like another highway to you, but let me talk about it for a minute. This is the intersection of I-26, I-40, and I-240. You can go straight (to the left) on this road and head toward the Enka / Candler end of Buncombe County, you can bear to the right and go through Asheville locally and then toward UNCA and Weaverville if you need, or you could turn off right (about 100 feet back from where I took this photo), and head toward the Oteen, Swannanoa, and Black Mountain area of Buncombe.

Years ago there were two churches (Pentecostal and Baptist) sort of battling for a piece of land right around here. I believe the Pentecostal church was thinking of selling, the Baptist church jumped on it... and then the Pentecostal church changed plans and they ended up building a giant church in on this property. No problem, the Baptist church just built on the many acres they already had.

Back to this spot. It is a key highway connection point and a very major business spot in Buncombe County.

Town of Woodfin in Buncombe County

Woodfin is a little town nestled in-between Asheville and Weaverville. Right to my left here is the Town Hall and Woodfin Police Department, and a wonderful playground that was built in memory of Avery King, a toddler from Weaverville that was killed in 2006 after being ran over by a car in a parking lot in Covington, Ga. For more info on the Town of Woodfin, please visit www.woodfin-nc.gov

Weaverville or Asheville North Carolina, you pick

Quick directional sign in the Woodfin area of Buncombe County. You can make a right here and head to downtown Asheville, UNCA, and South Asheville. Or you can go over the overpass ahead, make a left and head to Weaverville, Marshall, Mars Hill, and into Tennessee. You can also go straight and this road brings you into the Merrimon Avenue part of North Asheville.

Bucombe Hair Salon, Bakery, Florist

This photo was just taken at the Food Lion (New Bridge) shopping center in the Woodfin area of North Buncombe. Baked Goods, Flowers, and Haircuts! We know several people that go here to get their haircut including Pastor Jimmy Dykes of North Asheville Baptist Church. All of us always go to Sisters McMullen Bakery for breakfast, pastries, and lots of good baking, and this florist is one of the 3 we use for flowers when needed. Reynolds Mtn Real Estate and Development is also in this shopping center and the new YMCA is about 300 feet away from this point. Props... North Buncombe/Asheville YMCA

Where other than Reynolds Mountain making their mountain community even better. So this is the new North Buncombe (Northest at least) YMCA building and it will also have a bunch of retail and office space available on this great end of Buncombe County in Woodfin. KCB Construction is the Contractor. Much more development to come in this area. Everyone is excited about the great development that is going on in Buncombe County.

Snow in the Buncombe County Mountains

Living above 1500 feet elevation can be eventless sometimes. While the rest of the world is up and running around, some are very snowed in. In Asheville the sun may be shining, but there are areas around Buncombe County (as shown in this photo) where there is nothing but a snow blanket. Glad this is Sunday and not Monday! The mountains of Buncombe County are beautiful, and even more so in leaf season with a little snow.

New SECU in North Buncombe, Weaverville

The new State Employees Credit Union is now open for business. The Contractors base was about 2 hours away in Morganton NC so the job dragged a little.... but the end result is beautiful. Everything from this corner to Reems Creek is eventually going to be developed. If you live in North Buncombe, and use the SECU; this is your new stop!
